The Montane Kielder 100 is Britain's first 100 mile, single lap, off-road mountain bike race. That's right, 100 miles, not those tiny little European kilometres, and it's back for 2010! One lap of a specially designed one hundred mile endurance mountain bike race course with just one road crossing, some fire roads, some grass tracks and a surprising amount of challenging, technical singletrack. This is not a race for the faint hearted or the unfit, just speak to anyone who rode last year. Enter now.
We all had a brilliant day, we hope you did too. Great riders, great marshals and volunteers, great course, a great atmosphere and just a little bit of luck (well, if you can drop a bottle of single malt on a flagstone floor at the prize giving without it breaking, you know somebody is looking out for you). And it didn't even rain, did it?
We have to say some huge thank yous, firstly to Simon Banks the course designer and all round top bloke, without his never ending enthusiasm and commitment I really don't think we could have done this.
Next to Joolze Dymond for all of her hardwork and support throughout the year. Joolze has done a lot more than just take photos, but I'm sure that's all the riders are interested in so take a look at www.joolzedymond.com for some truly epic photographs.
And to Alex McLennan and all at Forestry Commission England and Scotland; 7Stanes; both Mountain Rescue Teams (thankfully we didn't need them); Montane, USE, Exposure Lights, Singular, Accelerade, Buff, Purple Mountain, XCRacer and Saddle Skedaddle; the people of Kielder and Newcastleton who welcomed the event and the riders with open arms; The Olive Cafe in Newcastleton and The Dukes Pantry for providing great food all weekend; Geltsdale Brewery for supplying a well needed post-race beer; to all of the brilliant volunteers, helpers and marshals whose support is vital for mountain bike events; to the Piper; and lastly to every single rider who turned up to take on this incredible challenge.
Thank you.
